Justina and Don were heartbroken to see this sad little boy living down the road from them. He was used as a roping donkey and lived a horribly sad life of neglect and abuse. He is only 3 years old and has been abused in this manner since he was 6 months old. Justina described his sad story here. And here is a story in a Texas newspaper that describes what donkey roping is.

There are beautiful updates to his story at The Morning Bray Farm, The 7 MSN Ranch, and On The Way to Critter Farm...they are worth taking a few moments to visit and read because this truly is a heartwarming and inspiring tale of caring people and a lucky little donkey. I have borrowed a few of the pictures that show what a wonderful, brave, and adorable little boy Patrick is.

10 whinnies:
Oh, Sue... here I go crying again. :)
Thank you for posting this. Love and hugs from all of us at Morning Bray Farm. xoxoxo
Donkey roping is such a horrendous, cruel act. I can't even imagine how terrified they make the animals. :(
So happy to see that Patrick has a happy, loving home now. Bless Justina and Don for saving him.
I read about Patrick this morning on the 7MSN bog. It's absolutely incredible that that sweet boy wants anything to do with humans! What an awesome reward for Justina and Don!
Patrick is going to learn about love from his new family. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Roping is disgusting!!! I'm so glad those wonderful people rescued Patrick.
I love that you are spreading the story!
i just couldn't bring myself to read any of the details of patrick's life. seeing his pictures and hearing what you had to say was enough for me to fall in love with patrick too! do they come any cuter than that?? what a little hero he is!
Oh my, I love this post. what amazing people you and Patrick's new parents are! how lucky they all are to have eachother. It's amazing how much perserverance the little guy has. i'm just thrilled that he found a healthy and happy home...and with other donkeys!
I'm with Clairz - thank you for sharing Patrick's story. It really is an amazing one. He has such a wonderful home now!
:-)
We also have a senior who was subjected to being a roping donkey. He is my friend, Jack. He has not been so forgiving as Patrick. Knowing dear Jack, and what it has taken to gain the most minor amount of trust toward humans, makes my heart go out to my cousin, Patrick. How wonderful that he has allowed himself to take another chance with humans. They're not all bad, Patrick. It took Jack 3 years to overcome his trauma, but he was subjected for years. Poor old man. Patrick's story really hit home for me, because of knowing Jack. Thank you Dream Valley Ranch. We need all the voices we can find to help my wise, and kind donkey family to live securely. This practice needs to be stopped.
