It's the little things...

This blog is usually focused on the critters at our ranch. But some days you stumble across a lovely unexpected surprise and you have to share your smile with the world.

This morning I ran down to The Big City (Boulder) to drop off some goodies at the local Humane Society Thrift Store.

On my way back I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up a few items. You know how that goes...I ended up with a monster shopping cart of yummy organic goodness!

The register seemed a little more chaotic than usual but I figured it was Monday so shrugged it off.

When it was my turn the cashier informed me that their system was down and they were charging $1 per item for the morning.

Holy Moly!

I walked away with five overflowing bags of groceries for about $50 saving at least $200! As I left they finally decided to close the store (I think lots of customers started calling their friends!) Clearly they were losing too much money.

I made sure to thank every employee on my way out for how they handled the entire mess-they could have made folks put everything back or made us wait as they hand entered prices. Instead they took the loss and did it with smiles and graciousness.

In this day and age it is nice to see a big company try to do the right thing for the customers rather than worrying about the bottom line.

Thanks Whole Foods! You made my day today :)

An Introduction

Hello from all of us at DVR!

Although many folks already know our story I thought it would be wise to introduce ourselves so that new visitors to our blog will know who we are :)

My name is Sue (aka SueBeeDoo or smrp). My hubby (The Accidental Horseman, aka mrsmrp) and I live on a little 35 acre ranch here in the mountains of Colorado called Dream Valley Ranch.

Our fuzzy family currently consists of 4 dogs and 8 horses all of whom were rescued from places where they were abused or neglected. I will write a post soon that introduces everyone and gives a short bio about each of them.

In the meantime here are a few videos that I put together over the years that give a glimpse into life at DVR. I hope you all enjoy them. I'll be back soon to begin sharing our adventures!

SueBeeDoo, MrSue, & the Crew

This is the first video I made of the herd arriving. We started with 4 horses but quickly jumped to our current herd size of 8. I love to watch this video because it takes me back to that moment before I became a horse mom. It's been a pretty amazing 3 years-I have learned so much and I love my life as a Dog and Pony Mom!

This is the most recent video of our sweet girl Chloe the Wiiiiiiild Mustang (8 years old). We almost lost her due to renal failure 4 months ago but she is not ready to leave us (thank goodness!) and is continuing to do very very well...

This is a tribute to Chloe's filly, Snapdragon. She was born in May of 2009.

And last but not least, here is a video of life before horses when we took our (then) 6pack of dogs skijoring at nearby Devil's Thumb Ranch...we had a blast!
